10-Step Korean Skincare Routine Can Dramatically Improve Your Skin

For many women in Korea, taking care of their skin is a highly precise, daily multi-step regimen, which leaves their skin looking flawless. Over the last several years, beauty experts around the world have taken notice. In fact, many companies in the United States have started to offer their own K-Beauty style products inspired by the traditional Korean skincare practices. Typically, the Korean skincare routine is broken down into ten basic steps, and here is a quick overview of each one.
Step One: Makeup Removal
Before applying any other skincare products, the first step is to wash off today’s makeup with a quality makeup remover.
Step Two: Cleansing
Once the makeup is gone, now the cleaning process begins. Use a gentle cleanser and massage it into your skin as you apply it.
Step Three: Exfoliating
While exfoliating is important, this step doesn’t have to be done every day. In fact, you should really only exfoliate once or twice a week.
Step Four: Toning
Using a good oil-free toner will remove any of the residual products, pesky oils or dead skin cells that the previous steps may have missed.
Step Five: Essence
Considered by many to be the most important part of the routine, essence is a concentrated liquid that enhances the skin’s natural rejuvenation process. Experts suggest that you spray it on and then gently massage the liquid into your skin.
Step Six: Ampoule
Basically Essence Part Two, an ampoule is a super-concentrated version of the rejuvenating liquid, and applying it to the skin smoothes away wrinkles and helps to even out the skin tone.
Step Seven: Sheet Mask
Like exfoliating, the face mask isn’t a daily necessity unless you have particularly dry skin. These masks are soaked in everything from hydrating ingredients to collagen, and applying the masks to your skin allows your body to soak these ingredients up.
Step Eight: Eye Cream
Applying a high quality eye cream will reduce puffiness and lines around your eyes, and you should gently tap it into your skin to increase the product’s effectiveness.
Step Nine: Moisturize
If you haven’t figured out by a now, a key part of this skin care regimen is keeping your skin properly hydrated. So now that we’re nearing the end, apply a gentle, oil-free moisturizer.
Step Ten: Night Cream
The last step before laying down in bed is to use a concentrated night cream to help your skin lock in moisture overnight.
While this process may seem intimidating, remember that the Korean skincare regimen isn’t just about results. A major element is allowing the ritual itself to relax you, to spend a few minutes each day pampering yourself. Rather than being viewed as a chore, look at it as a chance to spend some time alone and unwind.
