Gwyneth the Green Gwyneth Paltrow Launches Organic Skincare Line

Gwyneth Paltrow, world-class actress and the latest creative director for Juice Beauty, has just announced the launch of her long-awaited makeup and skincare collection. Paltrow’s new Phyto-Pigment Color collection features 78 eye, lip, and face products – each of which are certified organic and crafted from berries, flowers, fruits, and veggies.

After nearly a year of collaboration with Juice Beauty founder and CEO Karen Behnke, Paltrow created a high-performance cosmetic line with completely sustainable, eco-friendly ingredients.

“I wear makeup heavily in my work,” Paltrow told Forbes. “And now that I’m post-40, I’ve started to wear it more often in my day-to-day life. But once my lifestyle website, Goop, started investigating toxicity in these products…I was stunned. I genuinely thought makeup was safe, but that’s not the case.”

Paltrow says she “naively” believed in the cosmetics industry to regulate the ingredients in their products until recently because she couldn’t imagine how a nearly $55 billion industry could go vastly unregulated. When she discovered this wasn’t the case, Paltrow set out to fill the “white space” around high-performance, nontoxic beauty products.

The increasing demand for truly natural products is finally starting to drive down the price of buying organic, long considered one of the biggest drawbacks for the industry.

While nearly everything available on Paltrow’s Goop website is pricey, this collection won’t come close to breaking the bank: the whole line, available through Juice Beauty and Ultra stores, will run between $20 and $48.

Behnke and Paltrow have really clicked during the process. The two share similar ideals and motivations – something that drove the two of them to create an accessible, everyday line.

"Karen, who's the founder of Juice, is an incredibly authentic, hard working mother and entrepreneur, and we both had strong feelings about having incredibly high-performing, beautiful makeup that was also nontoxic," said Paltrow in an interview with Yahoo!

Paltrow holds the new product line very close to her heart and has decided to name a few of the products after some of her most beloved friends and family. Kate Hudson, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, Chelsea Handler, her mom, Blythe Danner, and her 11-year-old daughter, Apple, all have their own unique product included in Paltrow’s new line.

So what’s next for the dynamic duo?

“We’re definitely focused on educating and conquering North America,” Behnke said. “And actually a lot on Canada — they have a highly intelligent consumer population who knows how to read ingredients. But we’ve already started to see a lot of interest in other markets. I think our next step will be Asia.”
