Derma Smart: Clothes for Dry Skin?
by Vanessa Day
As the warm summer months draw to a close, the cool weather begins to set in, and with it the overly dry air that sucks moisture from our skin. Climate is just one contributing factor to dry, itchy skin. Allergies and sun damage can also increase skin irritation, not to mention trigger unsightly rashes and spots. Eczema and Rosacea, common skin conditions, are a source of many issues, including dry, cracked and burning skin that can be extremely uncomfortable and painful. Lotions, medical creams and prescription pills can bring some relief, but for how long? Now, dermatologists have developed something that could potentially provide all-day relief: Derma Smart.
Derma Smart is a unique t-shirt fabric that relieves the itch from dry skin, as well as the pain and irritation caused by eczema and rosacea. Instead of dealing with the discomfort, people can simply slip on their clothes for instant comfort.
The fabric differs from traditional clothing materials in that it’s made from microfiber and it glides over the skin’s surface. The material dries quickly and uses tiny amounts of silver to prevent bacteria buildup, a major contributor to skin symptoms. The silver works as an antimicrobial, a substance that kills or inhibits the growth of bacteria, yeasts and molds. Another helpful feature of Derma Smart is that the seams are on the outside and there are no labels or tags, so nothing will rub and irritate skin more. The makers of Derma Smart hope that people will use this to help treat medical skin issues. At a price tag of $30-$50 for shirts and pants, it’s a reasonably priced option for treating problem skin.
As far as ridding skin of the problem, Derma Smart is not a cure, it is only a way to relieve pain, itching and discomfort. So while you won’t have to keep applying lotion or creams all day to give your skin a break from irritation, the problem will still be there when you take off the Derma Smart shirt.
Many skin conditions are extremely annoying to deal with on a daily basis. Even with products like Derma Smart that can help ease the irritation, skin problems are still prominent and a concern for many people. There are professional treatments, such as skin rejuvenation and microdermabrasion, that can help to get rid of dry, cracked skin and more severe ailments like rosacea. If you are suffering from any of these skin conditions and you want to learn more about your skincare options, contact us today to set up a consultation with a skincare specialist in your area.
