At-Home Product Review: Dermaflage Topical Dermal Filler

by Wendy Travis

dermaflage review

Finding a solution to recessed scarring, such as that left from acne, has required cosmetic procedures in a doctor’s office in the past. However, a new product on the market promises to mask minor imperfections and recessed scars without visiting a physician. The product, formerly known as Daphne Topical Dermal Filler, has previously been available through plastic surgeons and dermatologists. However, the treatment can now be purchased over the counter and online, under its new name, Dermaflage Topical Dermal Filler. Does it work as promised? Healthy Skin Portal will take a closer look at this highly touted home scar treatment.

What is Dermaflage Topical Dermal Filler?
Dermaflage is the first product on the market that promises to fill in areas of the dermis through a topical, at-home treatment. The product is sold as a kit, which includes:

  • Extended Wear Primer (said to last up to 36 hours)
  • Applicators with three distinct skin tones
  • Spatula for applying filler
  • Texture pad to texturize silicone once it is applied
  • Additional tips and syringes for subsequent applications

The kit retails anywhere between $55 and $70, depending on where you purchase from.

Dermaflage was created by a former Hollywood makeup artist, Matt Singer. Singer originally created the system for the entertainers he worked with, but now he is making it available to the general public as well. The formula is created with medical-grade, FDA-approved ingredients that will not smudge or smear. The product claims to be waterproof and is effective for up to 36 hours at a time.

How is Dermaflage Applied?
The Dermaflage Topical Dermal Filler kit comes with a manual to help users apply the product correctly. The process begins by rolling on the Dermaflage primer and allowing it to dry for 30 seconds. Next, the silicone formula is applied directly to the scar, using the applicator and special tip included. The silicone must be well blended before the texturing step can be done. To add texture to the area, apply the texture pad and hold in place for a minimum of two minutes. Once the texture pad is removed, Dermaflage cures in about five minutes. Makeup can then be applied over the filler.

Benefits of Dermaflage Topical Dermal Filler
There are a number of benefits to the Dermaflage Topical Dermal Filler, including:

  • The scar treatment offers an alternative to cosmetic procedures
  • The product is reasonably priced and relatively easy to apply
  • Scar treatments can be done from the convenience and privacy of home
  • The treatment kit offers a variety of skin tones, allowing users to match the silicone to their own skin color
  • The formula is made with medical-grade ingredients, and is waterproof and makeup-friendly

Dermaflage does provide a number of advantages and many users have been quite satisfied with the results they get from the product. However, there are a few drawbacks to Dermaflage as well.

Disadvantages of Dermaflage Topical Dermal Filler
Some of the drawbacks to consider with Dermaflage Topical Dermal Filler are:

  • The product must be reapplied every 36 hours to maintain results
  • The results of the treatment depend on how adeptly it is applied
  • The treatment does not actually remove acne scars, but simply hides them
  • Some customers have not been completely satisfied with the results they have received from Dermaflage
  • Regular purchasing of the product may make it more expensive than a cosmetic treatment in the long run

The decision to seek any type of cosmetic treatment for scarring is a personal one. For some, a topical solution is a good way to hide embarrassing scars without the need for injections or other cosmetic procedures. However, if you want to say goodbye to your acne scars on a more permanent basis, one of our representatives at Healthy Skin Portal will be happy to discuss the options in cosmetic treatments available today or schedule you with a free consultation at a local aesthetic center.
