New Ideas for Morning Skincare

Maybe you’re the up and at ‘em type, ready to take on the world at the start of each new day. Maybe you can barely function until you’ve had one or two cups of java. Whether you fall into either category or somewhere in between, you probably have your morning skincare routine down pat. However, making a few changes can make your complexion look even better and might take less time than your current regimen.
Instead of gulping down a cup or so of tea or coffee, drink a glass or two of water, with a twist of lemon or lime. Coffee and tea, while liquid, can dehydrate you. While drinking water doesn’t sound like part of a skincare routine, it’s actually quite important. Skin requires hydration to stay healthy and plumped up. Water – it’s more than a breakfast drink. Try to drink several glasses throughout the day and evening. You should also include hydrating fruits such as oranges and berries as part of your breakfast. Along with hydration, these fruits contain powerful antioxidants for healthy skin.
If your standard a.m. skincare routine consists of cleansing, toning, moisturizing/sunscreen and eye cream, there’s nothing wrong with that. However, if you find yourself always running late in the morning, consider using a cleansing package cloth that cleans, tones and exfoliates in one go – all you do is rinse off, dry your face and put on moisturizer and eye cream.
Makeup with Sun Protection Factor
Some women love the no-makeup look. Others prefer to wear a base and/or powder. There’s no right or wrong, but if you opt for the latter do more than just wear sunscreen. Choose a base or powder that includes SPF. You want to protect your skin as much as possible from the harmful rays of the skin. Nothing ages skin faster than sun exposure. Of course, tinted moisturizer with an SPF works well for many women in lieu of makeup.
The Night Before
One way to keep your morning skincare routine to a minimum is doing the heavy lifting the night before. That means making sure every last bit of makeup is gone and using products with alpha-hydroxy acids and/or retinol, followed by a night cream. Retinols prevent skin aging but cause sun sensitivity, so they’re for nighttime only use. In the morning, you can just wash your face, apply your moisturizer/sunscreen, and you’re good to go.
