BOTOX® Injections for Hyperhidrosis

BOTOX® Injections for Hyperhidrosis

An Overview

Already one of the most popular products in medical cosmetics, BOTOX® has now been FDA approved as a viable treatment for people coping with excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis. BOTOX®, when injected into the targeted areas of the skin via tiny needles, goes to work on hyperhidrosis in a similar manner to the way it removes wrinkles. Effectively blocking key nerve endings, the Botox can inactivate sweat glands and reduce excessive sweating by more than half. This improvement can last up to six months.

Botox injections usually work best to treat axillary hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating in the armpits. BOTOX® for underarm sweating is not a permanent solution to the problem, but most patients do experience a considerable decrease in sweat production under their arms for at least several months.

Some physicians may also utilize BOTOX® for sweating of the palms, or sweating of the hands, known as palmar hyperhidrosis. However, the pain and potential muscle weakness involved in this procedure make it a less than perfect solution to anything but the most serious hyperhidrosis cases.

Regardless of the location or severity of your hyperhidrosis, make sure you consult with a specialist to see if BOTOX® injections for sweating could work for you.
