An Overview

An alternative to collagen dermal fillers, Juvederm™ uses cross-linked strands of hyaluronic acid to create an easily injectable gel, which has been proven to improve the skin's fullness, texture, and elasticity.

Juvederm™ is similar to Restylane in its use of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that is vital to maintaining healthy volume and vibrancy in the skin. Like collagen, this compound begins to diminish as you age, bringing on the onset of fine lines and wrinkles such as those that cause dark under eye circles. To combat this, Juvederm™ injections provide the body with a refill of hyaluronic acid in the form of a smooth gel. This long-lasting gel flows easily into the skin, working in harmony with the body's system and binding natural elastin with existing and newly formed collagen molecules. The result is firmer, smoother skin and a rejuvenated look that can last as long as six months.

Since earning FDA approval in 2006, Juvederm™ has risen up the ranks of commercial facial rejuvenation products, both for its success in wrinkle removal and lip augmentation. In terms of wrinkle treatment, Juvederm™ has proven particularly effective in eliminating nasolabial folds (also known as "smile lines"), and as a lip filler, Juvederm™ treatments offer patients the opportunity for results comparable to invasive surgery, without the risk factors or long recovery time.

Juvederm™ has been proven safe and effective with patients of all skin types, and it's also environmentally safe, biodegradable and devoid of any animal ingredients.

How Long Does this Procedure Take?

Juvederm injections take about 15 to 30 minutes to administer, depending on how many areas are being treated.

Juvederm Side Effects:

Possible side effects are usually temporary and include redness, swelling, pain, firmness, bumps, and itching around the injection areas.

Length of Juvederm Results:

While Juvederm lasts longer than both BOTOX Cosmetic® and Collagen, it is a temporary fix to fine lines and wrinkles. Original Juvederm will last up to 6 months, while Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus can last up to one year!

Juvederm Recovery Time:

There is no recovery needed with Juvederm injections.

Can Insurance Cover Juvederm?

Being a cosmetic procedure, Juvederm is not covered by insurance.

Will I feel pain or discomfort after treatment?

As with all dermal fillers, you will probably feel some soreness at the injection site, and possibly a mild to moderate headache. This is normal and should subside in 1-2 days. If you have severe itching, redness or pain in the treatment area, consult your provider immediately.
