An Overview

Developed in the 1950's by Frenchman, Dr. Michel Pistor, Mesotherapy has become one of the world's most popular non-surgical cellulite removal treatments. Not only does this injection-based treatment even the skin tone, but it actually affects fat deposits by breaking down the connective bonds of adipose fat cells and naturally flushing them out of the body. As a result, patients can erase cellulite and bring back the smoothness to their legs, hips, thighs, arms, abdomens, and even the area under the chin!

Mesotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that rarely takes longer than 15 to 30 minutes to complete. During a treatment, the mesoderm, or middle layer of the skin, is stimulated through injections of a special combination of vitamins, minerals, traditional pharmaceuticals, and homeopathic medicines. The concentration of these ingredients depends on the practice and the patient's individual case, and a series of treatments is required to achieve the best results. The exact number of treatments can range from 4 to 15, depending on the size and complexity of the area being treated, and are typically spaced out over 1 to 2 week intervals.

Because Mesotherapy injections directly reach the target areas of the body, it takes only a small amount of medication to bring about instantly noticeable results. Plus, patients are able to avoid many of the side effects that often accompany orally administered medications or more dangerous, surgical procedures.

After many years of success in Europe and South America, it is easy to see why Mesotherapy has now taken off in America. While primarily utilized as a safe alternative to liposuction, it has also been proven effective in treating arthritis and muscle spasms. Some clinics even use Mesotherapy for precise jobs like eyelid surgery and face-lift procedures, which they call Meso-lifts.

In recent years, Mesotherapy has been challenged by a similar procedure, LipoDissolve™ , or injection lipolysis—a more concentrated anti-cellulite injectable. The concentration of the ingredients in LipoDissolve tends to vary from clinic to clinic, while Mesotherapy tends to be more regulated.

How Long Does this Procedure Take?

The time required for Mesotherapy depends on the area you are having treated—both the number of areas being treated and their size. Most Mesotheraphy treatments do not take any longer than an hour to perform.

Mesotherapy Side Effects:

The most common side effect after Mesotherapy is soreness, similar to a strenuous workout.  You may also develop knots in the injection area.  This is considered normal and a sign that the injections are dissolving the fat cells.

It is very important to drink lots of water after treatment to help flush the injections and dissolved fat cells out of the system.  You will also want to eat a light meal beforehand so you can avoid any dizziness you may feel after treatment.

Length of Mesotherapy Results:

Mesotherpy results generally last, at least, one year. However, it is very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to keep your figure. Any additional weight you gain after Mesotherapy will affect your body's shape.

Mesotherapy Recovery Time:

Some patients will rest for a day or so after treatment. It is important to massage the treated areas to not only alleviate any soreness you may feel, but to also help disperse the injection throughout the area.

Can Insurance Cover Mesotherapy?

Due to the cosmetic nature of Mesotherapy, insurance is not involved.

Will I feel pain or discomfort after treatment?

Mesotherapy injections are as uncomfortable as any injection. Since Mesotherapy comes in a series of injections your provider can use numbing injections or a topical numbing creams.

Other Names for Mesotherapy:

Cellulite Reduction, Cellulite Removal, Cellulite Removal Injections
